Flowers are strongly associated with women and femininity. They hold significant cultural symbolism, and among other things, serve as apologies for wrong-doing.
This series of sunflower husks emerges from that language of offering. The husk, a metaphor for time well passed, these were painted as an act of apology to women, acknowledging the enduring gender pay gap and a refusal to let the waiting continue unnoticed.
